Watch Out for Hitchhikers!
Posted: 4/28/2020
We are finally starting to have a hint of the summer weather we are all so looking forward to, and with that comes the desire to get out on the water. This is also a time to be thinking about aquatic invasive species. Boats are reappearing on our local waterways, and some are moving from lake to lake and pond to pond. Despite our boat wash stations not in operation for several more weeks, this is a reminder that we cannot let down our guard. We must remember that it’s up to each one of us to prevent invasives being introduced to our beautiful lake. It’s important we continue to be vigilant about checking our vessels, particularly when moved between water bodies. New York State’s current Invasive Species Law requires that boaters take “reasonable precautions” to prevent the spread of invasive species. Remember to check your boat for any 'foreigner passengers' on your boat. As a reminder, check out the invasives we need to be on the lookout for: https://adkinvasives.com/species_categories/aquatic-target-species/
